an hour away from Zadar by the ferryboat, you will find the island
Dugi otok among the chain of middle Dalmatia islands. It is the
largest island within the Zadar archipelago with the surface of
115 km2, 43 km long and 4,6 km wide. Its position is in the direction
Northwest – Southeast. The peak is at Vela straza (338 m), beneath
you will find the Karst fields: Velo jezero, Arnjevo polje, Stivanje
polje, Sridnje polje and others, and many caves: Strašna peč,
Kozja peč, Veli badanj… On the island, with 11 settlements facing
the land and with the steep Southwest side facing the open sea,
the population is around 1500 people. The
most attractive parts for tourism are the Southeast part with
the salt water lake »Mir« and Telascica bay, part of a national
park and is a part of the National park Kornati; and far West
side of the island with a well-known tourist town Bozava, sandy
beach Saharun and Veli rat lighthouse which dominates the area.
In the surrounding seas one can find 250 types of botanical life
and 300 animal species and that makes Dugi otok a real heaven
for scuba divers.
